"For extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy in action against enemy forces on 31 October 1944. During the attack of The Seaforth Highlanders in the area of Liesel-Meijel on the Deurne Canal, Major Gilmour was ordered forward to lead the leading echelon to its objective. With excellent leadership, sound tactical ability and great devotion to duty under constant enemy fire, he directed the advance of the command, took the objective and captured many prisoners."
