Peters participated in seven successful rescue sorties, saving a total of fifteen lives. On 7 August 1944 Lieutenant Peters proceeded to a position within sight of the Dalmatian Coast and located ten members of the aircrew of a ditched American Fortress who were floating in dinghies. With the aid of another Walrus type aircraft, the ten aircrew members were taken aboard but due to the heavy load Lieutenant Peters was unable to take off and was forced to taxi for two hours towards the Italian coast before being relieved of a portion of his load.
