Koert Vos was born on July 13th, 1912 as the son of Jakob Vos and Aaltje Vos-Boois. He was drafted for military service in 1932 with the 19e Regiment Infanterie at the Menno van Coehoornkazerne in Arnhem. During the mobilisation of Dutch forces in 1939 he was added to the 43rd Regiment Infantry and stationed at Doornenburg for the defence up and around Fort Pannerden with the 2e Compagnie, IIIe Bataljon, 43e Regiment Infanterie.
