Biography

Jan Dekker was born in 1902 in Goes. He was a manufacturer of organs, school furniture and gymnastics equipment, but was best known as an organ builder. His company was established in Goes in 1900 and supplied both nationally and internationally.

As a member of the NSB, he became district leader of Zeeland and also Authorised Representative [of the Leader] for the province. He was never appointed Commissioner of Zeeland, largely due to opposition from the German occupying forces. Dekker enjoyed a great deal of power within the movement and was able to continue his work unhindered in Zeeland.

Dekker was also co-editor-in-chief of the NSB magazine 'De Zeeuwsche Stroom' from 1941.

Dekker was arrested by the Dutch Resistance in Harmelen in June 1945 and subsequently interned in the Goes prison on 5 June 1945. Dekker later ended up in the Wolvenplein Prison in Utrecht. After his release, Dekker lived in Bloemendaal. He died in 1991 in Aardenhout.
