Baron Joan van Haersolte van Haerst was born in Doetinchem in 1887.
As a young man, Baron Haersolte van Haerst joined the Royal Institute for the Navy in Den Helder and was promoted to Ensign after training. Two years later, he was promoted to Lieutenant and left the navy on 1 November 1913. However, the baron was mobilised again a year later and served as a landstorm-duty Lieutenant Commander from 21 August 1914 to 1 November 1915.
After his military service, Baron van Haersolte van Haerst was active in real estate. He was also co-founder of the Hague Civil Guard.
During his travels in the 1930s, Baron van Haersolte van Haerst became a convinced national socialist and joined the NSB. During the German occupation, the baron was Authorized [of the Leader] for South Holland and District Leader of The Hague.
After the war, he was prosecuted by a special public prosecutor and his case came before the judge.
Baron Joan van Haersolte van Haerst died at the age of - in 1967 in Bilthoven.
