Jan Doornik studied in France and then in Switzerland.
In May 1940 during the German invasion, he was in Belgium on business and could not join the Netherlands to enlist. He goes to France, arrives in Paris by forced march, his feet bleeding, and immediately goes to the Dutch military attache who advises him to wait. But wanting to fight without delay, Doornik joined Cardiff on June 18 and volunteered in the shock formation of a Dutch corps.
He then joined the Free French Forces.
He took part in setting up the Nimrod network.
He was executed on August 29, 1941 at Mont-Valérien, in the company of Honoré d'Estienne d'Orves and Maurice Barlier.
