Captain SS Stad Schiedam of the Halcyon Line

The City of Schiedam was on its way from Bermuda to Halifax to join a convoy, when a violent explosion occurred during heavy storms on September 16, 1940. The explosion was probably caused by sparks caused by metal parts hitting each other. The captain and 20 crew members lost their lives in the disaster.
