"This airman was the pilot of an aircraft which attacked Hanover one night in September, 1943. Although one of the bomber's engines failed when nearing the target, Sergeant Winn went on to execute a most determined attack. Shortly afterwards a second engine became unserviceable. Despite this, Sergeant Winn flew the bomber back to this country, effecting a successful crash-landing at an airfield near the coast. This airman displayed superb skill, great courage and determination in the face of heavy odds."
