The Adinda sailed from Alexandria to besieged Tobruk. When the ship arrived there on February 8, 1941 and dropped anchor, it hit a mine. The explosion destroyed the bow, killing Chief Mate Hoegen and a number of Chinese crew members. Hoegen was buried at the Italian Military Cemetery in Tobruk, Libya.
