As part of a convoy, the Sitoebondo left London for Calcutta on July 14, 1941. On July 26 the convoy was disbanded. On July 30, the Sitoebondo was torpedoed by U-371 near the Azores. As a result, 19 people lost their lives, including De Raadt.
