Lieutenant Commander of the 2nd Class

Moreau was killed on February 19, 1942 on board Hr.Ms. Piet Hein in Badoeng Street (SE of Bali). This destroyer took part in the attack on the Japanese landing fleet off Bali. During this naval battle, the boiler room of the Piet Hein was hit by a heavy shell. Fire continued on the rudderless floating ship until it finally sank, completely wrecked. Some of the crew managed to reach the coast of Bali. Moreau was posthumously awarded the 'Bronze Lion' for brave behavior in the battle.
