The Serooskerke left Loch Ewe in Scotland for Durban on November 26, 1942. Since then, nothing more has been heard from those on board. It later emerged that the Serooskerke was torpedoed by a German submarine on December 6, 1942 NE of the Azores. 82 people, including helmsman Gabriëlse, lost their lives.
