Captain SS Sembilangan
Seaman's grave

The Sembilangan, a seized German ship, was managed by the SMN. Sailing in a convoy, the ship was torpedoed about 200 miles west of Cape Finisterre on March 13, 1943. The tremendous explosion completely destroyed the ship. Only the third engineer survived the disaster; 86 people lost their lives, including Captain Leguit and third mate Pilkes.
