Third mate ss Sembilan

On its way from England to British India, the Sembilan was torpedoed on the East Coast of Africa on April 17, 1943 by the Italian submarine R.M. Leonardo da Vinci, who himself was destroyed with depth charges by HMS Ness more than a month later.
The Sembilan was completely destroyed in a matter of seconds. Only one laskaar (a sailor from British India) was rescued. The remaining 85 crew members died.
