Biography

First mate ss Garoet

The Garoet was torpedoed by U-181 on the Goa-Durban route on 19 June 1944 in the Indian Ocean, 600 miles NE of Mauritius.
The very quickly sinking ship pulled the sloops into the depths. Only 10 people of the 93 crew managed to save themselves with two rafts, Kuijer and second mate Stroebel drowned.
