Was established as a stevedore in the Philippines.
Van 't Hof was interned by the Japanese. In the camp, where he served as a cook, he did a lot for his fellow sufferers. When the Americans advanced in the spring of 1945, the camp residents were locked up by the Japanese. Van 't Hof managed to escape to get help. He reached the American outposts but was killed by a Japanese shell shortly afterwards, on February 15, 1945.
