Biography

Pilot Officer Gerald Stephens, aged 21, son of David and Lena Stephens, of Sutton, Surrey. He was flight engineer of the Short Stirling MK1 BF415 which was shot down by a German night fighter near Montfoort on Thursday 4 February 1943 during a mission to Hamburg. He and the rest of the crew died in the crash and are buried in Montfoort Municipal Cemetery.

The text on his headstone reads:
'DEEPLY MOURNED AND SADLY MISSED. GOD REST HIS SOUL IN PEACE'
