Quartermaster Royal Navy

Van der Meulen was taken prisoner of war by the Japanese and did forced labor on the Burma Railway. Died on December 8, 1944 in Koedjie, Thailand. On the website of the War Graves Foundation it is noticeable that about 20 Dutchmen died that day in Koedjie. In another document of the War Graves Foundation concerning Van der Meulen, the question ‘Circumstances under which died’ has been filled in in handwriting: ‘Bombardment of a train with prisoners of war by an English plane.’
Buried at Kanchanaburi War Cemetery in Thailand.
