Biography

Harm Eemstra was born on November 15th, 1909 as son to Gosem Eemstra (September 27th, 1886, Steenwijkerwold - July 13th, 1938, Steenwijk) and Grietje Eemstra-Winters (September 17th, 1882, Steenwijkerwold - April 12th, 1972, Steenwijk). As from 1939 until May 12th, 1940, he was stationed at Fortress Pannerden. Het came to Fortress Pannerden as borderguard with the 1e Sectie, 3e Compagnie, IIIe Bataljon, 19e Regiment Infanterie what later became part of the 2e Compagnie, IIIe Bataljon, 43e Regiment Infanterie. On November 4th, 1933 he had married Lammigje Dassen (November 14th, 1912, Steenwijk - February 3rd, 2003, Meppel). After the surrender of Fortress Pannerden, he and the other soldiers became POW. As such he becam for 88 days POW nr. 32816 at POW camp Stalag IIa, Neubrandenburg, until he was permitted to go home.
