Biography

Adrianus Marianus, calling name Janus, was born on August 1897 in Elst, Gelderland as the son to Carel Gijsberts and Huiberdina Wilhelmina Gijsberts-Breunissen. From March 2nd, 1917 until October 1st 1919 he served of which mostly at Fortress Pannerden with the 5e Compagnie Pantserfortartillerie. After the Firts World War he transferred to the Regiment Kustartillerie but did not have to serve anymore. On October 1st, 1937 he was honorably discharged. He had married Anna Hendrika Cornelia Gerritsen (July 24th, 1900, Herveld) on May 6th, 1926. By the end of the Second World War, after operation Market Garden, he was one of the remaining men who stayed in the Betuwe after the evacuations to watch over the cattle that remained.
