Biography

Laurence Roy Bradford had been a professional soldier since 1939 and was recruited to the Special Air Service (SAS) in February 1944. He commanded in A Squadron which was dropped on June 21, 1944 in the Morvan area of France as part of Operation Houndsworth. On June 20, their jeep with which he and 3 others were on their way encountered a convoy of German soldiers and he and Craftsman William Devine were killed in the ensuing firefight.

Both men are buried in Crain's Municipal Cemetery.
