On Saturday 22 July 1944 at 01.40 hrs the AVRO Lancaster Mk I LM183 shot down by Heinz-Wolfgang Schnauffer of the army unit IV./NJG1 flying a Bf 110 G-4 from airfield St Trond (Sint-Truiden) in Belgium. The plane crashed 2 kilometres south of Boxtel in a meadow on the Mijlstraat.
The aircraft had taken off from Tuddenham airfield at 23:13 the previous evening for a bombing raid on the Rheinpreussen synthetic oil plant near Meerbeck in Germany.
All seven crew members, five British and two Canadians, were killed.
