Biography

Dirk van Bergen was born on February 21st, 1915 as the son to Pieter Hendrikus van Bergen and Jannetje van Bergen-de Hoop. He was medical declared fit for military duty on April 13th, 1934 and found fit for Naval of Engineering duties. He finally was send to the navy. During the mobilization until his transfer as POW on May 12th, 1940 he served as sailor at Fort Pannerden with the Marine Rivier Bewaking (attached to the 2e Compagnie, IIIe Bataljon, 43e Regiment Infanterie). As POW he was send to Stalag VI F in Bocholt and Oflag 67 Neubrandenburg before he was send home after about three months.
