"This officer's service includes two tours of operational duty with Bomber Command; he has also served as a staff pilot and an instructor at Operational Training Units. He joined Transport Command in March 1944. In addition to the airborne operations over Normandy and the Arnhem bridgehead, Flying Officer Carter has participated in nearly 90 transport operations, involving the conveyance of urgent freight to forward battle areas and returning with casualties. His high standard of airmanship, his willingness and devotion to duty have set a fine example."
