"This officer took part, as rear gunner, in three sorties during the operations at Arnhem. In the face of intense enemy opposition, his coolness contributed greatly to the fine effort made by his crew. Flight Lieutenant Dawson has already completed one operational tour with Bomber Command and has almost completed a second. He has, at all times, displayed a very high order of courage and leadership. He has participated in operations both in the Middle east and Europe."
