No. 82 (United Provinces) Squadron, Royal Air Force

April 11th, 1941
Citation:
'In March, 1941, this officer was detailed to carry out an operational sweep over the Ems estuary. Sighting an enemy patrol vessel, Squadron Leader Burt immediately attacked and, in the face of heavy and accurate anti-aircraft fire, dropped his bombs and machine-gunned the ship from a height of only 500 feet. Although the controls of his aircraft were severely damaged, and the hydraulic gear rendered useless, Squadron Leader Burt flew safely back to base and made a successful landing without sustaining damage or injury to the crew. He has completed numerous operational missions and has at all times set a splendid example of courage and determination."
