John was served with the RCAF in WWII and lost his life when his plane, Dakota KG489 437 Squadron crashed along the "Everse Akkerpad' at the village of Eerschot, just south of Sint Oedenrode Noord-Bradant Holland....
Dakota III KG489 was hit by machine-gun and canon fire from Focke-Wulf Fw 190 fighters. The aircraft operated on a resupply mission to Arnhem, Netherlands, during Operation Market Garden.
