Michael Steven Donne, was part of RAF 17 Squadron (RAF Martlesham Heath) and his Hawker Hurricane was shot at by a German Messerschmidt during a patrol flight over The Hague on 11 May 1940. He was badly injured in the process and his aircraft made an emergency landing at Lange Biesakkersweg in Numansdorp.

Medical care was to no avail and he was buried in the Numansdorp Cemetery.
