Biography

Hans Blankenberg was born in the former Dutch East Indies, came to the Netherlands without parents to study in Delft, but did not return after the Christmas holidays of 1942-1943. He moved in with his great-aunt Cornelia Johanna Tilanus, who lived on the Lage Hof on the Nunspeterweg in Elspeet.
During the war, Hans joined the resistance. At the end of 1943, beginning of 1944, he started working as a courier. His job was to ensure that the resistance's transmitting equipment reached constantly changing locations.
On Sunday 10 September 1944, Blankenberg was caught while working as a courier and was killed by the SD (Sicherheitsdienst) after being tortured.
