Biography

Born 29 December 1918 in Sliedrecht. Son of Willem Boer (Sliedrecht 1 October 1888) and Neeltje Kros (Sliedrecht 22 August 1892). Serviceman from the 1e Bataljon, 6e Regiment Infanterie, assigned to the Dekkings Detachement Willemsdorp.

Two versions exist about how he was wounded. Documents from the War Graves Foundation show that he was wounded during the German bombardment in the early morning of 10 May 1940 on the barracks camp near Moerdijk. Another version states that he was hit in his shoulder, hip and leg during the fighting with German paratroopers. It is certain that he died in a hospital in Dordrecht on 14 May 1940. After initially being buried in Dordrecht, he was reburied in his birthplace around 1950. His name appears in the Erelijst van Gevallenen 1940-1945 and on the ‘Willemsdorp’ monument in Dordrecht.
