Biography

Born on August 1st, 1920 in Zijpe as the son to Evert Muntjewerf (September 18th, 1872, Oudesluit, Zijpe - May 27th, Zijpe) and Trijntje Schermer (October 28th, 1883, Anna Paulowna - May 22nd, 1961, Zijpe). Enlisted soldier with the 4th Company, Third Battalion, 35th Infantry Regiment. The headstone states 2nd Depot Company, 21st Depot Battalion which was his conscription unit. Killed on 10 May 1940 during the fighting near Fort Westervoort. Initially buried in Arnhem. On 10 July 1940 reburied in Sint Maartensbrug cemetery. His name appears on the monument to the fallen of 4-III 35th Infantry Regiment near Fort Westervoort.
