Born 8 April 1924 in Harenkaspel. Son of Jacob(Jaap) Pater (November 16th, 1890, Waarland - November 8th, 1967, Alkmaar) and Anna van Stralen (April 15th, 1892 Heerhugowaard - June 5th, 1955 Waarland).

On the evening of 3 May, a group of Germans were looking for a local initiator of the May strike. Some soldiers chased a boy they thought had entered a barn. In this barn, Piet Pater was also present. When he was addressed by a German soldier in the barn, Piet did not understand him and an altercation ensued. Pete fled outside after which he was fatally shot in the back by the German soldier. On 6 May, the funeral took place where, by order of the Germans, only close relatives were allowed to attend. In 2012, his grave was officially recognised as a war grave.
