Born 23 June 1928, son of Elbert Gerrit Wonder (4 January 1903 - 14 November 1995) and Anna Schoorl (16 March 1905 - 27 November 1993).
On 6 November 1944, Teunis 'Teun' Wonder set out to bring business grain to the Star near Kolhorn for his father. He had just turned onto the Westfriesedijk with a fully loaded wagon and two horses, when two English fighters came flying in from behind. The English fighters had orders to attack transports. They were afraid food was being transported for the Germans and this had to be stopped.
Warnings about this were also issued via Radio Oranje and people were advised against going on the road. Not everyone was aware of this. Radios and other similar equipment had to be handed in. It was forbidden to possess them. However, this information was not known to Teun and his parents. The hunters opened fire. Many bullets smothered in the bags of grain. Some, however, hit Teun in his legs. He was still taken to the hospital in Alkmaar, but for Teun help came too late. Teun was 16 years old and is buried in the Wieringerwaard municipal cemetery.
Remarkably, Teun kept a diary even at his age. As recently as 1 November, he reported that two planes had shelled Stationsweg; five days later, he himself became a victim of such shelling. The original diaries are in the NIOD archive.
