Period:
Second World War (1939-1945)
Rank:
Kapitein (Captain)
Unit:
T Section, Special Operations Executive (SOE), British Government
Citation:
"This officer was parachuted into Belgium on 5th August 1944 as organiser and sabotage instructor to the head of Zone IV of the Secret Amies. He also acted as courier and valuable W/T crystals, funds and a letter of congratulations from general Eisenhower to the Chief of the Belgiam Secret Armies.
Servais was called upon to organiser the last tremendous effort to accelerate the liberation of Belgium. With no thought for his own personal safety, Servais toured the whole Zone visiting each separate dropping point and giving precise instructions to the reception committees on the disposal of arms and explosives which would be parachuted to them. He then joined the Etat Major of the Secret Armies and gave the officers of the Etat Major the benefit of the teaching he had received in England on guerilla warfare tactics.
His mission was a complete success in every way. He was a man of ripe experience, steady and reliable, who in the short four weeks of concentrated activity before the liberation of belgium impressed his personality on all he met and proved himself a highly capable organiser and staff officer.
It is strongly recommended that Capitaine Servais be appointed a member of the Order of the British Empire (Mil)(Hon)."
