Biography

Hans Zomer was a Midshipman in the Royal Dutch Navyt and was attached to the Secret Intelligence Service in London. On 12 June 1941 he was dropped by parachute and on 31 August 19411 he was arrested in Bilthoven by the Germans while he was operating his transmitter. From 5 January 1942 to 3 March 1942 he was in the "Oranjehotel" after which he was transported to Maastricht where he was convicted during the "OD-trial". He was shot in Germany on 11 May 1942.

"Has distinguished himself by performing exceptionally courageous and tactful acts in the battle against the enemy, by, after being parachuted into the occupied Netherlands as a radio operator together with an organizer on July 13, 1941, until August 31 of the following year, carrying out his task under very difficult and dangerous circumstances in an excellent manner, and also demonstrating that he can view his task more broadly and thereby render good service to the Dutch Government and the Allied war effort, until he was finally discovered and captured as a result of his activities on August 31, 1941, sentenced to death and executed in Maastricht in May 1942."
