Citation:
"Distinctly distinguished himself by performing exceptionally courageous and tactful actions in the battle against the enemy by, after being dropped as a radio operator by parachute in occupied Holland on 23 June 1943, transmitting a large number of extremely important messages to England.
Furthermore, by continuing this work for a considerable time under difficult circumstances and, despite the fact that the enemy was on his trail, maintaining contact for many months afterwards at a time when radio connections were still scarce, until he was arrested on 3 February and taken to a concentration camp in Germany."
