Biography

Ronald Marsden, born in Scarborough, North Yorkshire on 8 May 1920, grew up in Stockton and joined the RAF in 1935 as an apprentice at No. 1 School of Technical Training, Halton.

Initially serving in ground crew roles, he later trained as a flight engineer at No. 4 School of Technical Training, St Athan, qualifying in September 1942.

Posted to a conversion unit, he flew on 20 missions in 207 Squadron.

Transferred to 617 Squadron, Marsden took part in their first operation—the Dams Raid—on 17 May 1943. Tragically, AJ-C was shot down near Hamm, and six crew members, including Marsden, perished. Initially buried by the Germans in Hamm, they were later reinterred in Reichswald Forest War Cemetery.
