Gustav Schreiber was a Waffen-SS company commander of whom rather little is known about, despite his distinguished service. He received the Knight’s Cross for conducting a decisive counterattack at the Kharkov—Poltava railway line in September 1943, and later received the close combat clasp in Gold. He would be captured by the Soviets at Cherkassy, but by disposing of his awards was able to survive captivity.
