06.05.1945: US Navy organized a "hunter-killer" group that included four American warships: 'USS Ericsson', 'USS Amick', 'USS Atherton', and 'USS Moberly' which quickly found 'U-853' and sank her during a 16-hour attack 7 nmi (13 km; 8.1 mi) east of Block Island, Rhode Island, resulting in the loss of her entire crew.
