Awarded the Knight's Cross for the following actions, as reported in the German press...
“Korvettenkapitän Friedrich Wunderlich has proved his worth as captain of a submarine hunter and later as commander of a submarine hunter flotilla. During his first command he sunk an enemy submarine and heavily damaged two more. In heavy combat with English bombers he also shot down a bomber with a 2 cm cannon and machine guns. Over the course of his second command, the submarine hunter flotilla under his leadership was able to shoot down 12 aircraft and sink one destroyer escort, four torpedo boats, and an artillery boat. It also swept 60 mines."
