Emmo von Roden entered the Army as a Fahnenjunker in autumn 1912. On 6th August 1914 he became Leutnant in Westfälisches Ulanen-Regiment Nr.5. In the post WWI era, he joined the Reichsheer. He became Rittmeister on 1st February 1926. His promotion to Oberstleutnant was on 1st January 1937 and on 1st October 1937 he became Commander of the II. / Infanterie-Regiment 84. He commanded an infantry regiment during the first phase of World War Two and was promoted to Oberst 1st October 1939. From 1st August 1941 he commanded the Infanterie-Regiment 678 and became Kommandeur of the Infanterie-Ersatz-Regiment 62 on 10th December 1942. On 1st April 1943 he was promoted to Generalmajor and was assigned as General for Special Employment in Heeresgruppe Ukraine on 25th July 1943. Finally he became Kommandeur of the 286.Infanterie-Division from 27th January 1945 until 3rd May 1945. Formally he was Missing in Action from that 3rd May 1945.
After the war from the Red Cross there was found out that he was taken prisoner of war and imprisoned in a camp. When he and some other officers tried to escape, they were captured and executed.
Emmo von Roden was married and had adopted a daughter. Both later emigrated to New Zeeland. He and his wifes family owned a large estate in Namslau, Silesia, now in Poland.
