“Oberst Herrmann von Wedel… was fighting in the defensive battle northwest of Orel when overwhelming enemy forces managed to achieve a dangerous penetration into friendly lines. However he placed himself at the head of just 25 Grenadiers from his Lower Saxonian Grenadier-Regiment and managed to eliminate this penetration via a deliberate counterattack.”
