    Biography

    On 18 December, 1944 Brandi became Fregattenkapitän. In January 1945 Fregkpt. Brandi became the Chief of the Marinekleinkampfverbände Holland (the unit comprised of small U-boats such as the Biber and the Seehund). Brandi was captured at 8 mei 1945 (IJmuiden) and was released from Canadian captivity in September 1945.

    The following press excerpt (dated 13.04.1943) describes why Brandi was awarded the Oakleaves…

    “The Führer has awarded the Oakleaves to Kapitänleutnant Brandi, who was named in yesterday’s Wehrmachtbericht for sinking an 8000 GRT English cruiser in the Mediterranean Sea.

    With this Kapitänleutnant Brandi has sunk the third cruiser in the Mediterranean Sea within a short time. In addition to these successes, by now he has also sunk numerous other vessels in the same area of operations. These include 2 destroyers, a few auxiliary warships as well as 10 enemy merchant ships with 48000 GRT.”
