Bischoff’s Knight’s Cross recommendation reads as follows…

“On the night of the 02./03.04.1945 Leutnant Bischoff undertook a voluntary patrol operation with his shock Zug about 12 km in the rear of the enemy. Setting out from Schüttorf, he skillfully led his soldiers and reached the Wettringen-Bilk road at a point south of Bilk during the midnight hours. Here he laid about 80 T and S-mines and brought the enemy significant losses. A hostile company was badly battered. Swiftly recognizing the situation, he and his shock troop eliminated 3 Shermans and 1 assault gun with close combat weapons. Now identified and pursued by the enemy, Bischoff fended off several platoon strength enemy attacks, and in the process the enemy lost about 30 dead. By swinging west Leutnant Bischoff and his shock Zug managed to fight their way through to friendly lines during the morning hours without losses.”
