Biography

Marcel A-Tjak was born on 18 July 1917, the son of James George A-Tjak (1888), 2nd generation Chinese-Surinamer, and Jeane Vistoria Favery (1889). After completing his education at the MULO (1935), he moved to the Netherlands to study at the HBS in Amsterdam (1935) and the HTS (1937). He was mobilised and trained as a conscript as an observer in the Aviation Department.

After World War II, he continued his studies at TU Delft (1948) and worked for the Biliton Maatschappij in Indonesia and eventually at the Mining Department of TH Delft (1968-1981), including several years as a Professor.
