Biography

Hans Geismann finally reached the rank of Hauptmann. After the Second World War he served with the Bundeswehr and finally reached the rank of Oberst.

15.11.1939: volunteered for the Luftwaffe - training with Fl.Ausb.Rgt. 63, with FFS A/B Marienbad then with FFS C 1, then BFS 1 and Grosse KFS 1
Summer 1941: 1./ KGr. 606
19.01.42: WIA as Leutnant in KGr. 606 when his Ju 88 A-4 crashed ivo Corigliane as a result of motor trouble
08.1942: Staka 1./ KG 77
01.09.1942: I./ KG 77 : unit renamed
12.11.1942: claimed to have sunk a passenger ship of about 20,000 GRT, possibly the Awatea (13,482 GRT) or the Cathay (15,225 GRT)
01.04.1943: promoted Oberleutnant in KG 77
06.1943: training on torpedos in Germany
11.1943 - 07.1944: Oblt and Staka 10./ KG 77
03.1944: flew some torpedo missions in the Mediterranean
08.1944: retrained on fighters
01.10.1944: promoted to Hauptmann
11.1944: converted to night fighters and assigned to IV./ NJG 1
05.1945: Staka in IV./ NJG 1

30.09.1979: retired from the Bundeswehr as an Oberst i.G.
Pilot credited with sinking more than 71,000 GRT of shipping.

On the 12.11.1942 Geismann sunk a passenger ship (with 20000 GRT) and a transport (with 7000 GRT) in the port of Bougie, Algeria. By this action he brought his total of sunk enemy shipping to 98000 GRT, and was awarded the Knight’s Cross in recognition of this feat.
