“The Führer has awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross to Oberfeldwebel Karl Golles, pilot in a Schlachtgeschwader, at the recommendation of the supreme commander of the Luftwaffe, Reichsmarschall Göring. Karl Golles, born as the son of locomotive stoker Robert G. on the 13.10.1917 in Zwickau, holds the profession of railway metalworker. He has outstandingly distinguished himself in the Western campaign, in battle against the Soviet Union, in the Mediterranean area and on the Italian front as a transport, destroyer, fast bomber and ground attack pilot.
