At the recommendation of the Supreme Commander of the Luftwaffe, Reichsmarschall Göring, the Führer has awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross to Oberleutnant Györy, pilot in a Fernaufklärergruppe.

Oberleutnant August Györy was born on the 21.07.1919 in Kleinwarasdorf (Niederdonau) as the son of a builder. Over the course of 360 sorties on the eastern front he has provided the higher commands with extremely valuable photo intelligence despite strong enemy fighter and ground defenses. Furthermore, as a technical officer in his Staffel, he modified the armament of the Staffel’s aircraft according to his own designs in such a way that massively aided the successful completion of its’ reconnaissance missions in areas heavily protected by fighters and anti-aircraft guns. Through this he also achieved notable success in the armed reconnaissance role.”
