05.1941: transferred to 3./ KG 100 'Wiking'
10.06.1942: hit and sank the transport ship 'Abkhaziya' (4,727 GRT) at Sebastopol
24.08.1942: Leutnant in I./ KG 100, awarded the Ehrenpokal
09.09.1942: Leutnant in I./ KG 100, awarded the DKiG
1943: promoted to Oberleutnant

Awarded for his successes over the course of well over 300 bombing and transport sorties. He achieved particular success in anti-shipping situations. On the 10.06.1942 he and his crew sank the Soviet troop transport “Abchazija” with 4727 GRT in the port of Sevastopol. Later, on the night of the 17-18.06.1943, he damaged a freighter with about 3500 GRT and two nights later seriously damaged another with 8000 GRT. Both of these were in the Caspian sea.
