Biography
Gerhard Korthals was killed on November 3rd, 1942, when his Junkers Ju 88C-6 Werknummer 360.059 coded "F8 + ??" for unknown reasons caught fire and crashed near Lorient Airbase in France. Remaining crew, all KIC :

Awarded for his successes achieved in over 300 sorties as a bomber pilot. In this time some of his more notable accomplishments included his destruction of an ammunition dump in Warsaw, sinking a British destroyer during the Norwegian campaign and destroying the only bridge over the Don that led into the Soviet bridgehead at Korotayek (cutting off their avenue of retreat in the process).
